Psalm 103:13, 17-18
KJV—Like as a father pitieth his children, so the
Lord pitieth them that fear him.… The mercy
of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting
upon them that fear him, and his righteousness
unto children’s children; to such as keep his
covenant, and to those that remember his
commandments to do them.
AMP—As a father loves and pities his children,
so the Lord loves and pities those who fear
Him [with reverence, worship, and awe].… The
mercy and loving-kindness of the Lord are
from everlasting to everlasting upon those
who reverently and worshipfully fear Him, and
His righteousness is to children’s children—to
such as keep His covenant [hearing, receiving,
loving, and obeying it] and to those who
[earnestly] remember His commandments to
do them [imprinting them on their hearts].
Moffatt—As a father pities his children,
so the Eternal pities his worshippers. . . The
Eternal’s love is everlasting, his loyalty goes
on to children’s children, when they obey his
compact and remember to do his bidding.
NIV—As a father has compassion on his
children, so the Lord has compassion on those
who fear him.… From everlasting to everlasting
the Lord’s love is with those who fear him,
and his righteousness with their children’s
children—with those who keep his covenant
and remember to obey his precepts.
Proverbs 4:3-4
KJV—For I was my father’s son, tender and only
beloved in the sight of my mother. He taught
me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart
retain my words: keep my commandments,
and live.
AMP—When I [Solomon] was a son with my
father [David], tender and the only son in the
sight of my mother [Bathsheba], He taught me
and said to me, Let your heart hold fast my
words; keep my commandments and live.
Moffatt—When I was a son with my father, a
little one, loved by my mother, he taught me
and told me this: “Keep in mind what I say, do
what I bid you, and you shall live, swerve not
from my orders.”
NIV—When I was a boy in my father’s house,
still tender, and an only child of my mother,
he taught me and said, “Lay hold of my words
with all your heart; keep my commands and
you will live.”
Proverbs 14:26
NIV—He who fears the Lord has a secure
fortress, and for his children it will be a refuge.
NKJV—In the fear of the Lord there is strong
confidence, and His children will have a place
of refuge.
AMP—In the reverent and worshipful fear of
the Lord there is strong confidence, and His
children shall always have a place of refuge.
Moffatt—He who reverences the Eternal has
strong ground for confidence; his very children
win security.
Isaiah 43:4-6
KJV—Since thou wast precious in my sight,
thou hast been honourable, and I have loved
thee.… Fear not: for I am with thee: I will bring
thy seed from the east, and gather thee from
the west…bring my sons from far, and my
daughters from the ends of the earth.
AMP—You are precious in My sight and
honored, and because I love you.… Fear not,
for I am with you; I will bring your offspring
from the east [where they are dispersed] and
gather you from the west.… bring My sons
from afar and My daughters from the ends
of the earth.
Moffatt—So precious are you to me, so
honoured, so beloved.… From the far east will
I bring your offspring, and from the far west
I will gather you…bringing my sons from afar,
and my daughters from the end of the earth.
NIV—Since you are precious and honored
in my sight, and because I love you.… Do not
be afraid, for I am with you; I will bring your
children from the east and gather you from
the west.… Bring my sons from afar and my
daughters from the ends of the earth.
